REFERENCE POLICY
INFORMATION FOR RESEARCHERS
The Learning Resources Center of Alamance Community College
acquires and preserves records of historical value. These
records include manuscripts, books, campus newspapers, photographs,
maps, sound recordings, and videotaped images concerned
with various aspects of history
HOURS:
The collection is open to researchers during normal Learning
Resources Center hours.
The hours are as follows:
Fall and Spring Semesters
Monday - Thursday: 7:45 AM - 9:30 PM
Friday: 7:45 AM - 4 PM
Saturday: 8 AM - 12 noon
Summer Semester
Monday - Thursday: 7:45 AM - 9:30 PM
Friday: 7:45 AM - 12 noon
REGISTRATION:
All researchers are requested to register, providing their
name, address, signature, student or other identification
number, and their research topic. When items are returned
they must be handed to a member of the library staff and
checked back into the collection.
REGULATIONS:
- The Learning Resources Center reserves the right to
restrict the use of original documents, allowing researchers
to use scanned or photocopied duplicates whenever the
original is deemed to be too fragile or irreplaceable.
- No ink of any kind may be used near the documents; use
pencils only. Laptop computers may be brought into the
collection and used at the discretion of the librarian.
- Smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited in the
library.
- All archival collection materials must be handled carefully:
use only one folder at a time and keep the papers in their
existing order. Do not place books or volumes face down.
Do not lean or press on archival materials. Do not trace
maps or other records.
- No material in the collection may be removed from the
library. Any attempt to remove material or to disregard
these regulations will result in revocation of library
privileges and may result in legal action being taken.
- Persons requesting access to restricted materials must
contact the person or agency imposing the restrictions.
The library cannot permit access to these materials without
written authority.
- Researchers are advised that it is their responsibility,
not the collection, to obtain copyright clearance to publish
or otherwise reproduce or distribute collection material.
Whenever possible, the librarian will provide the names
and addresses of copyright holders.
- If publishing material from the collection, please credit
the collection:

group number, volume number, file number, title of document
or names of correspondents, and date, as follows:

PHOTOCOPYING:
Unless restricted or protected by copyright conditions,
material may be photocopied using the photocopy machines
inside the Learning Resources Center. Request for photo
or electronic copies to be mailed or emailed to researchers
as quickly as time permits. However, it may not be possible
to fill an order on the day requested, and the Learning
Resources Center reserves the right to carry out the work
over a period of time.
Users requiring copies of photographs, maps, sound recordings,
or video materials are requested to consult the librarian
about conditions and charges.
